I’ll be honest, I didn’t think that I would see the installation of seven magic mountains as the concept is set to exit Las Vegas at the end of the year. However, on a trip west, a decision was made to head to Vegas on an otherwise unplanned whim. Said decision paid off with jokes over drinks with an old friend, a comped stay at a local hotel (Thank you, again Jesse and Becca!) and a side trip to the installation.
The popular attraction consists of seven brightly painted “mountains” that tower over visitors in the middle of the Las Vegas Desert. I am almost certain that the attraction has made it’s way into your Instagram feed. The bright coloration choice of the boulders that stand above 30 feet high make for a photogenic backdrop. Even if a little kitschy, it’s a tribute to the human presence in the desert; a fitting bit of brightness to make sure to see.
Recently, I have been thinking about the relationships that I am thankful for in my life. And, to that degree, that is why this installation is blog-worthy for me. I could have traveled into the desert without much more than a partial tank of gas, a half gallon of soda and music on in the background. But, it’s those people that are unique in our lives that brighten the mood. When you have those people, share as many memories as you can and hold onto that shine.
The track this week arrives to us from the dependable Lake Street Dive who belt out a cover of “This Magic Moment” with such soul and heart, that it pairs perfectly with our location. Check out their latest release when you get a shot.
